Tutorial's DESIGN

When designing the tutorial for Dreamscaper, I was focused on ensuring that players clearly understood their "Critical Path" (player's intended route) and that they would learn all essential game mechanics without confusion.

The tutorial begins with the player learning basic movement mechanics while facing their "Critical Path," marked by the "Mission Objective BP" (shown here      )In the images below you can also see how I used "Landmarking" early on in the tutorial to show the player the "End of Level Performance Rating Widget"which is the level's end goal (shown here    ).

Throughout the remainder of the tutorial, I used "Leading lines" (shown here    ) alongside the "Mission Objective BP" in order to assist in guiding the player towards objectives.

In the images shown above (   ,    ,    ) you can see the widgets that I implemented in order to teach the player the more basic mechanics required to complete this level.

For the more complex mechanics in our game I implemented explanatory tutorial videos showing the mechanics in action and the inputs required to control them (shown below).
